What's Meetup?

Maybe it's time for a little less face-to-screen and a little more face-to-face.

What's a Meetup Group?

Meetup Groups are today's support groups, parent playgroups, citizen groups, fitness groups, book clubs, professional groups, and other powerful local groups!

Estimated attendance:  4  people attended.

The meetup agenda will be as follows....

3:00 Meetup starts with meet and greet and group business.
3:30 Micro-adventures start. We will have one micro-game for every 4-7 people.
6:30 Micro-adventures should wrap up and we'll have some free discussion.
7:00 Meetup ends.

This will be our normal Merlyns meetup to get us some time downtown. I've hear a number of people mention that we might want to think about Battle Grounds exclusively for the time being as they have better atmosphere than other place, so if you have any thoughts on this, please let me know. We are still looking for a good valley location, but have yet to find one, so if anyone has ideas on that as well, we'd love to see them.

John has offered to run a game of Savage Lands in the Deadlands setting as his game was preempted due to some last minute things that came up for him last month. Here's a video review of the system from YouTube, and a link to some basic rules. Maybe John will grace us with more before hand, but if not, this should be ample to get people up to speed. The game will have a maximum of 6 players.

Karl has also been working to put together another awesome game for us. After some months of being under the weather, he showed up last month and took over for John and ran us a great fantasy game. According to Karl, h'ell usually have something to run as a backup until it's time for him to be a primary again :)

Tyler has also put forth an idea for a table-top miniature game that he would like to run in the near future and so we might see that in May or June.

We are discussing matters and timing with our local WOTC rep to see about getting a sneak preview of D&D 4th edition right now as well. We tired to find a time in April, but it looks like that's falling through and so we'll be shooting for it in May. We will need to have at least 5 people who will guarantee they will show up for it so we can have him all to ourselves, and I'm pretty sure we can make that. More info to follow....

I am seeing who are getting excited, there are games to be run and games people want to play and those that are helping the group are getting some goodness out of it, while those on the fringe or who haven't shown, don't know how much fun they're missing.

Anyone interested in running a micro-adventure should let Dave know, for whenever you want to run something and I'll get it queued up. The first people to offer forth a game will come first, with me keeping one on standby just in case the primary GM for the meetup is missing, lost in action or we just have too many people.

And lastly, I will be accepting donations to keep the group running and to provide for any costs we may need to defray. A few people discovered I'd been paying for this out of pocket thus far and so decided they needed to donate just due to the fun they had. This is totally voluntary and I won't take more than a dollar from anyone that wants to donate (or $10 annually if you want to be a good samarian, which two people have done thus far :). There will not have any "event fees" unless they are absolutely required by venue or subject matter, however I would ask everyone to show their appreciation for our hosts by making some sort of purchase at the meetups.
