I'm trying to set up a Story Games Day in Denver in July. I think it should be an all day affair where we can play at least two games. I'll drive up from the Springs in my wife's van, so I should be able to haul a bunch of Colorado Springs gamers up with me!
Over the next week, we need to figure out what day is best for the most people. 4th of July weekend is too close and many people will likely be out of town. So the available weekend days are 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, and 27 July. Please respond with which of these days are best for you. Let us know if you live closer to Denver or Colorado Springs. If it's the latter, let me know if you want to carpool. No experience with these games is required! All you'll need to bring is yourself (dice and pencils optional). After we figure out the date and how many people we can expect, we'll figure out a location. But if you have any suggestions or offers, please let us know! Likewise, we can figure out who wants to run what Story Games and what want people want to play after we set the date. Most Story Games require little or no prep, so this is the least worrisome part - but feel free to discuss that in this thread too! |

Tell us more about what a story game is. How does it involve dice? What's it like, etc...

Story Games = Indie Games. Really, it's just a different word for it. All of the games you list in this group's description are considered Story Games. My understanding is that at the beginning these games were collectively referred to as Indie Games because they mostly originated from the Forge and had similar goals/techniques. But now not all Indie Games fit this mold. In fact, anything that is independently published can be considered an Indie Game - including a lot of d20 stuff. So the Forge people decided that Indie Games just meant independently published games and Story Games means games that shift the focus from "my character" to "our story".
I'm not suggesting you change the name of the meetup or anything. I used Story Games for my site and Yahoo Group, so that's also what I'm using for the "Story Games Day" in Denver since I'm trying to coordinate it across multiple sites/forums/groups - I'm just attempting to be internally consistent. In fact, there's some debate about how the term Story Games should be used and some people see it as encompassing all roleplaying games and some things that are not roleplaying games. But I'm using it to say "games like this". So it's pretty much impossible to keep pace with the terminology, just know that I am of a like mind and am interested in the same cool, new games that you are! As far as specifics go, I'm interested in trying all the games you list in the intro text, but haven't yet. I've run "Primetime Adventures", "With Great Power...", "Dirty Secrets", and "A Penny For My Thoughts". On the Yahoo Group, Doyce has offered to run "The Mountain Witch", "Spirit of the Century", "Dogs in the Vineyard", "In A Wicked Age", or "Mortal Coil" at the Denver Story Games Day. So we'll have a lot more games than time, but hopefully we can make this a recurring event. Edited by scottdunphy on Jun 25, 2008 10:09 PM |

I've played Mountain Witch and Dogs in the Vineyard, which are both pretty fun. I devised, but never played, a Space Opera Sci-Fi Vineyard variant, figuring the system would work well for other pulp genres.

Of the dates you mentioned, July 20 and 27 work best for me.

Unfortunately, we had to postpone this event. I'll post something here when we reschedule.
